So, what is minimalism and how does it pertain to fashion?

Your first impression of minimalism may be basic, however, there is more than meets the eye!

Concept and Style

Minimalism is when you strip down something to its essentials. In fashion, minimalism is the idea of being simple, functional while still maintaining a timeless style. Clean lines and neutral colors are trademarks of this style mode. Even though minimalist takes a detour from wild patterns and excessive accessories, there is still so much room for creativity with interesting cuts, fabrics, and subtle embellishments.

The Modern Minimalist

"Less is more" is a key manta for the modern minimalist. For example, instead of purchasing three "fast fashion" tops for twenty dollars a piece, purchase one stylish shirt for sixty dollars that will last longer and has a timeless style. It is about investing in a smaller and more functional wardrobe that allows a consistently stylish look for the wearer and avoiding waste of closet space. Monochromatic is a word often associated with minimalist fashion, with black and white being the dominant color scheme used in this genre of dress although nude, navy and other colors are also often seen. Once the closet has been stripped down, there is room for a few trendy statement pieces that you love; you can see these purchases as special addition to your wardrobe instead of a guilty splurge or an impulse buy because these special pieces will be given careful consideration and thought before being added to your closet making them worthy of their space.

Benefits

So what exactly are the benefits of having a minimalist look?

+ Clean look. Minimalist style helps when you’re trying to tell people you want to be taken seriously, which is why most corporate ladies wear monochromatic suits to work.

+ Timelessness. You can guarantee that minimalist looks won’t go off the trend radar anytime soon.

+ Trendy. Like the bohemian style, minimalist fashion has also become a zeitgeist. A cultural phenomenon that rocked the modern fashion world. You can see a lot of fashionistas in the street donning minimalist outfits. It’s also one of the reasons why basic clothes (e.g. plain white tees, black/white tank tops) are becoming more and more popularly worn as the main piece rather than being an undershirt or layered underneath.

Well, there you have it! These are some facts about the minimalist style. Also, you can see more minimalist outfit inspiration in my Minimalist Board on Pinterest.

Minimalism is a timeless fashion notion that will live well beyond our generation. There is room for so much personal style and creativity at any age. Are there any minimalist pieces you have your eye on this season?

Thanks for reading! See you next week, friends.
